1 16 oz. can jellied cranberry sauce
1 medium apple, pared and grated
2 medium bananas, mashed
⅓ cup sifted powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup chopped pecans
1 cup whipping cream, whipped

Directions:

Beat cranberry sauce until smooth. Stir in grated apple. Pour into 8 x 8 in. square casserole dish. Fold bananas, sugar, and half the chopped pecans into the whipped cream. Spread over the cranberry layer. Sprinkle with remaining pecans. Freeze overnight until firm and cut into squares.

This dessert from Grandma’s old spiral-bound cookbook is a staple of every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Leftovers are rare.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: We never know exactly what to call it, and we don't know if it is a dessert or a salad, but the original recipe called it a "loaf." All we know, is it would not be a proper holiday dinner without it!)
