16 ounces pitted dates, chopped
12 ounces butter, melted
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups oatmeal
1 t salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
Place dates in a medium saucepan and add enough water to just about cover them.
Boil, covered, until dates are mushy.
Mash dates well, then continue to boil until a jam like consistency.
In a bowl, combine the remaining ingredients.
Press 2 cups of mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch pan coated with cooking spray.
Spread the dates on top of crust.
Sprinkle remaining oat mixture on top of dates and press down slightly.
Bake 20 minutes or until top is golden.
Cool slightly before cutting into squares.
