Directions:Preheat oven to 350º. Double the dough recipe if you would like to have extra dough for the top or if using a large cookie sheet. Blend flour, baking powder, sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla together until makes dough and is moist, kind of sticky. You can use your hands. Place the dough in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Take the dough and press a little at a time on the bottom of a large cookie sheet. Use a little water on your hands to even out the dough in the bottom of the pan. Fill the dough with cherries. With the dough you have left, take little pieces and roll them into long strips. Place them on top of the cherries like a lattice. Bake for about 35-40 minutes until the top of the cake is golden brown, not too dark. Cool slightly before eating. |

Notes: A note from Kathy Keipp: Making this cake is a lot of work and it seems like a lot to do. After you do it a few times, it is not too bad to do at all. It passes time when you have nothing to do and is a very, very good cake. It is well worth the time. It looks nice too when you get it done.
