2 cups all purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450º. Stir together the first five ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs. Make a well in the centre and add the milk. Stir until dough clings together.
Knead gently on a lightly floured surface for 10-12 strokes. Roll into 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter, dipping flour between cuts. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden. Serve warm.
