1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
2 eggs well beaten
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp. soda
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup boiling water

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add cocoa and eggs
Add milk (in which 2 tsp. soda has been added) altenately with flour and salt.
Add boiling water and vanilla.

Bake in 9X13 greased pan at 350 for 35 - 40 minutes
