Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef browned
1 pound ground pork browned
1 cup boiling water
2 tsp salt
¾ tsp pepper
generous ½ tsp ground cloves
generous ½ tsp cinnamon
2 onions chopped and sauteed slightly - not browned, just slightly soft
2 cloves garlic minced
¼ cup fresh bread crumbs OR 1 cup mashed potatoes
pastry for 2 pies
1 egg beaten
1 Tbsp cold water

Directions:
Directions:
In heavy saucepan combine browned pork and beef, boiling water, salt, pepper, cloves, cinnamon, onion and garlic. Cook over medium heat, uncovered, for 10 minutes, stirring continuously. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes or until a lot of the liquid has evaporated but the mixture is still very moist. Remove from heat, add mashed potatoes and stir. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

Let cool completely before filling pie shells. Line pie plates with pastry and fill with meat mixture, cover with top pastry, seal and flute edges, cut slits in the top. Combine egg and water, brush over tops of crusts. Bake in 375ºF oven for about 30-45 minutes or until tops are golden brown. Makes 2 pies of 6 servings each.
