1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 1/4 cups self-rising flour
3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp. Dutch process cocoa powder
1/2 cup half-and-half
3 Tbsp. bourbon
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups hot water
1/4 cup chopped pecans
Vanilla ice cream, to serve

1. Preheat oven to 350º.

2. Add butter to an 8-inch square baking pan; place pan in oven just until butter is melted.

3. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, and Dutch cocoa; whisk in half-and-half, bourbon, and vanilla until combined. Pour onto melted butter in pan. (Do not stir together.)

4. In another medium bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa, and salt. Sprinkle onto batter in pan. Carefully pour 1 1/2 cups hot water onto sugar mixture. Sprinkle with pecans

5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool for 30 minutes on a wire rack before serving. Serve with ice cream.
