1 c. hot water
1 tsp. salt
6 T. shortening
¼ c. sugar
1 pkg. dry yeast
2 T. lukewarm water
1 egg
3½ - 4 c. sifted all purpose flour

Directions:
Directions:
Combine hot water, salt, shortening and sugar in a bowl large enough to allow for rising, cool to lukewarm.
Combine yeast softened in lukewarm water - then add to above mixture.
Add egg, half the flour and beat well, combine to above.
Stir in the rest of flour (to previous) - enough to make the dough easily handled.
Grease top of dough, cover and store in refrigerator - it keeps for 4 or 5 days.
Cut off dough as needed.
Shape into biscuits and arrange, side by side in a greased or oiled pan.
Or shape into balls and place in a greased 2¼" muffin pan. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place (80º-85º) until double in bulk ( about 1½ hours).
Bake in hot oven of 425º for 12-15 minutes.
Remove and brush with melted butter.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This is a "basic recipe" from The Good Housekeeping CookBook. You can look up online options of enhancing the recipe - example Pecan Rolls - add brown sugar, pecan halves and more water to the dough.
Grandma Matti's recipe shows she only used as basic recipe.
