To each jar add:
2 cloves garlic
2-3 tsp pickling spice
Vinegar mixture:
½ c. canning salt
4 c. water
¼ c. sugar
2 c. white vinegar

Directions:
Wash small pods of okra, pricking with fork. Pack tightly into pints jars. Bring vinegar mixture to a boil and pour over okra. Water bath 20 minutes.

This is Maxine Fowler's original recipe for pickled okra. I use more vinegar and less salt: 1 c white vinegar, 1 c water and 2 TBS pickling salt. For each pint jar add 1-2 cloves garlic, 1/2 tsp mustard seed and 2 tsp pickling spice. I don't add sugar.
