2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, chopped (or 1 T. flakes)
1 green pepper, chopped
2 cans tomato sauce, puree
1 can mushroom soup
1 (8oz) pkg noodles
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
2 tsp. Worcester sauce
1 can mushroom pieces

Directions:

While noodles cook, drain and rinse, brown meat, green pepper and onion. Add sauce and soup. Mix. Bake at 350º for an hour. 15 minutes before, you can top with chow mein noodles, if you like. Makes 2 qt casserole and a small one.

We lost my mom this fall. Since then, I have made this dish twice – our family’s favorite comfort food. We also love the fact that Mom, who was a bit of a perfectionist, misspelled hamburger, and when she corrected it, still missed crossing out the second “g”. So we fondly refer to this dish as “hamgrrgrr” casserole. I think it will always be my favorite comfort food.
