Ingredients:
1 package yeast disolved in 1/4 cup warm water with 1 t. sugar added. Let rise in cup.

1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup boiling water
1/4 cup can milk
1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
pinch of nutmeg
pinch of salt
lemon flavoring

Directions:
Directions:
Beat egg well. Add sugar, nutmeg, salt and flavoring (I do not remember Grandma's doughnuts tasting lemony, but since I am not a fan of lemon flavored anything, I would use vanilla or almond flavoring)
Add shortening/water mixture and yeast mix.
Knead well. Add enough flour so it doesn't stick. Raise till light-about 15 minutes.
Roll and cut. Let rise until light and fluffy-about 1 hour.
Fry in hot shortening/oil.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I remember these melt in your mouth doughnuts from my childhood. Grandma stood at the stove for hours as all her grandchildren rotated around and around through the kitchen to grab these hot from the grease!
I have typed the recipe as written by my mom- I am not sure grandma ever measured!
