1 1/2 cups dates or raisins (use less raisins)
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 T grated orange rind
2 eggs
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups coconut
1 cup uncooked rolled oats

Directions:
Directions:
Pit and slice dates. Cream together shortening, sugar and orange rind thoroughly. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour with baking powder and salt, and blend into cream mixture. Stir in dates, coconut and rolled oats. Drop by teaspoon fulls onto greased baking sheet.
Bake at 350º for 10 to 13 minutes or until done.
