4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 cup shortening
1 1/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.

Sift together dry ingredients and set aside.

In a saucepan over medium heat, mix shortening, molasses and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Cool this mixture then beat in 1 egg. Add the flour mixture, mixing well. Bake for about 15 minutes.
