1 pound ground beef
1 1/2 cups seasoned dried bread crumbs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp mace
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 1/4 cups heavy cream
1/4 cup flour
2 T salad oil (vegetable oil)
2 T butter or margarine
1 can (10 1/2 ounces)beef consomme, condensed
1 bay leaf

In bowl, combine beef, bread crumbs, milk, mace, salt, pepper and 3/4 cup of the cream; blend well. Shape mixture into about 40 meat-balls

On waxed paper, roll meatballs in four to coat. Brown well in hot oil in large skillet. Drain on paper towels. Wipe skillet clean.

In skillet over medium heat, melt butter or margarine. Stir in 1 T flour and blend until smooth. Gradually stir in undiluted consomme and 1/2 cup cream; heat to boiling, stirring constantly.

Add meatballs and bay leaf; simmer, covered, 15 mnutes or until meatballs are tender. Discard bay leaf. Serve in chafing dish to keep hot.
