Matrimonial Cake Recipe

Grandma Beach


1 3/4 Cup Flour
1 Tsp Salt
1 Tsp Baking Powder
3/8 Tsp Baking Soda
2 Cups Rolled oats
1/2 Cup Brown sugar
1 Cup Shortening

1 1/2 Lbs Dates
1 1/2 Cup Water
1 1/2 Tbsp Lemon juice or 1 Tsp Vanilla

Pre Heat oven to 350

Mix dry ingredients; add rolled oats.

Add brown sugar; cut in shortening to make coarse crumbs.

Cook dates with water and lemon juice until thick . Cool.

Press half the crumb mixture into 12x12 pan
Spread cooled filling over base.
Sprinkle remaining crumbs over and press down.

Bake 45-60 minutes

Note: Orange juice may replace all or part of water
