6 tbsp softened butter (plus more to grease pan)
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup + 2 tbsp sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pound strawberries, hulled and halved

Preheat oven to 350.
Butter a 10-inch pie plate and set aside.
Sift flour, baking power, and salt together into a medium bowl.
Cream butter and 1 cup sugar on medium-high in the bowl of an electric mixer until pale and fluffy.
Reduce speed to medium-low and add egg, milk, and vanilla.
Reduce speed to low and slowly add in flour mixture.
Mix until just combined.
Pour batter into buttered pie plate.
Arrange strawberries on top of batter as close together as possible, cut side down, in a way that is pleasing to you.
Sprinkle the remaining 2 tbsp sugar on top of berries.
Bake 10 minutes at 350.
Reduce temperature to 325 and bake for an additional 1 hour until golden brown and firm.
Let cake cool in the plate.
