35 - 40 saltine crackers
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. chocolate chips (1 1/2 cups minimum)

Optional:
coconut
Smarties
M & M's
chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Place crackers on a foil-lined cookie sheet in a single layer.
Preheat oven to 350º.
Melt butter in saucepan and add brown sugar. Bring to a boil and boil for three minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour evenly over crackers
Place cookie sheet in preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over hot cracker mix and allow to stand for a few minutes until the chocolate has softened to a spreadable consistency. Spread evenly over the whole pan and add any of the optional ingredients you might desire, pressing down slightly so that it sticks to the chocolate. Chill. When chocolate is firm, break into pieces and store in airtight container. Can be frozen, if so desired..
