Cake:
2 sticks butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1½ cup buttermilk
1 t. baking soda
3½ cups all purpose flour
¼ t. salt
1 lb. orange slice candy (halved)
1 lb. dates (chopped)
2 cups mixed nuts (chopped)
Icing:
1 small can frozen orange juice (thawed)
2 cups confectioners' sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cake: Cream the butter and sugar together.

Add eggs one at a time, beating well.

Add 1 cup of buttermilk and beat well.

Add baking soda to the half cup of buttermilk and then add to mixture.

Sift together flour and salt and add to the mixture. Add the halved orange slices.

Mix the dates and nuts that have been rolled in the ½ cup of flour.

Blend into mixture well. Line the bottom of a tube pan with well greased brown paper. Loaf pans (3-4) can be used instead.

Bake in a preheated 275º oven for 2-2½ hours or until toothpick comes out dry.

Icing: Mix thawed orange juice and sifted confectioners' sugar together making sure all lumps are dissolved. Pour over cake while still hot.

Let cake cool in pan before removing.
