1 cup butter, or more ¼ teaspoon baking powder
1 ¼ cups sugar 1/8 teaspoon mace
5 eggs 1 tablespoon brandy or
2 cups flour (measured after two 1 teaspoon vanilla
siftings) 1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Cream butter until fluffy. Add sugar to butter and cream until fluffy and light. Drop in1 whole egg at a time, beating until you have used the all 5 eggs. Fold in flour and baking powder sifted together. Add mace, brandy or vanilla, and salt. Mix gently. Bake in greased, paper-lined 9-inch tube pan for 1 hour.
