Our family holiday favorite meals usually were much the same each holiday. Ham, turkey, meat balls, potato sausage, the usual salads and vegetables. Lefse was a must for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pumpkin pie was dessert for Thanksgiving and homemade ice-cream was dessert for Christmas.

Grandma (Lena) Westby made the best coffee. Never got her recipe but it was cooked in a coffee pot on top of the stove. This was in 1936-37. Not too many modern conveniences on the farm back then. Used cook stoves that burned wood, corn cobs or coal. No rural electricity at that time until REA came in.
