4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 ¾ cups butter, divided
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 cup sifted flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pound confectioners sugar
¼ cup heavy cream
¼ cup pale dry sherry
1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 tablespoons water

Directions:

Preheat oven to at 325°F. Melt the unsweetened chocolate and 1 cup butter. Cool.

Beat the eggs in a mixer bowl until light and pale yellow. Add the sugar, salt, and cooled chocolate mixture. Stir in flour and vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured 9 by 13-inch baking pan. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until it springs back to touch. Cool.

Beat confectioners sugar, ½ cup melted butter, heavy cream, and sherry together. Fold in the pecans; mix well. Spread over the baked chocolate layer. Chill.

Melt the chocolate chips with the water and ¼ cup butter. Spread over chilled layers. Re-chill, or serve at room temperature. Cut into 1 or 2-inch squares to serve as a candy-cookie treat or 3-inch squares for a dessert
