1 c sugar
1/3 c shortening, melted
1 c sweetened applesauce, mashed
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder, sifted with flour
2 c flour

Applesauce
1/2 c dried apples
1 1/2 c water
Sugar to suit taste

Directions:
Directions:
Cream egg and sugar. Add shortening and applesauce. Cream again, then add flour, soda, and baking powder. Beat 2 minutes. Bake in moderate oven 50 minutes or until done.

Cook apples in water before using. Add sugar to suit taste. Mash. Use cold.
