Italian Pinwheel Rolls with Sprinkles of Poppy Seed Recipe

Ingredients: 2¼ cups bread flour, ¼ oz. active dry yeast, 1 cup warm water (110º to 115º), 1 tsp. salt, 1½ tsp. butter (softened), 1½ tsp. sugar FILLING - 2 tbsps. butter (melted), 6 garlic cloves (minced), 2 tbsp. minced fresh parsley, 1 tsp. dried oregano, ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, fresh poppy seeds to sprinkle top.

Directions:1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, butter, salt and 1 cup flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead dough until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a bowl with cooking spray, turning once to coat top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
3. Punch the dough down. Turn onto a slightly floured surface. Roll into a 12x10" rectangle. Brush with melted butter; sprinkle cheese, parsley, garlic and oregano within ½ " of edges. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seam to seal. Cut into 12 rolls
4. Place rolls cut side up in 13x9" baking pan coated with cooking spray. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. Sprinkle with the poppy seeds.
5. Bake at 350ºF for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove rolls from pan to wire rack. |
