SINGLE BATCH
3 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1½ tsp salt
½ cup milk
3 eggs
¼ cup melted margarine

TRIPLE BATCH
8 cups flour
2 tbsp baking powder
4 tsp. salt
1⅓ cup milk
⅔ cup melted margarine
8 eggs

Directions:

In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients, In a separate bowl or large measuring cup combine all wet ingredients and stir to thoroughly mix. Combine the dry and wet ingredients.

Knead to make a soft dough, adding more flour if dough is sticky. On a floured surface, roll dough out fairly thin. Using a sharp knife, cut strips about two inches wide. Cut each strip into pieces approximately 6 inches long. Make two diagonal slashes in each piece, about 1 inch long.

As you drop each piece give it a bit of stretch, gently, don't tear the dough. Deep fry in oil or melted lard, turning once to brown each side

All time summer favourite, served with cold watermelon slices or in the cooler months with a tasty homemade soup. Karl's mother gave me the recipe, had to learn what "margarine the size of egg" meant before making it..
