5 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup butter
1 cup shortening
¼ cup milk
4 eggs

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Using a pastry blender, cut-in as for pie crust: butter and shortening. Beat together milk and eggs. Stir in until combined.

Turn on oven to 375°F to preheat. Meanwhile drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Dip a dry glass into granulated sugar and flatten a cookie ball. Repeat until all cookies are formed. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until just beginning to brown. Remove from oven, allowing cookies to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before removing to a cooling rack
