4 egg yolks or 2 whole eggs
1 cup sugar
2 T shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk or thick sour milk
1 tsp vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour, sifted
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cinnamon

Fryer temp 375.

Beat together the eggs, sugar, and shortening, about 1-2 minutes.
Add buttermilk and vanilla.
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Add this mixture to egg mixture. Beat until blended.
Chill dough for 2 hours.
Drop dough carefully by heaping tablespoonfuls into hot shortening. Cook about 2 1/2 minutes.
