1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg (separate the yolk and white)
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1.2 tsp salt
1 cup chopped nuts
Your favorite current jelly or frosting.

Directions:
Directions:
1. Set aside the egg white and chopped nuts..
2. Combine all the other ingredients to form a dough.
3. Roll the dough into balls about the size of walnuts
4. Preheat oven to 350
5. whip the egg white until if forms a stiff peak
6. roll the dough balls in the egg white and than in the chopped nuts. Put coated dough balls onto a cookie sheet
7. bake for 5 minutes at 350.
8. remove from the oven and with the flat side of a spoon, or your clean thumb, press down in the middle of each cookie
9. Put back in oven and bake another 8 minutes
10. remove from oven and spoon on a little current jelly in the middles of each cookie while still hot or a bit of your favorite frosting.
