3 - 6 white onions, peeled and sliced
1//2 tsp brown sugar (optional)
1/ 3 cup butter
8 cups beef broth
1/ 3 cup dry white wine
1/2 tsp thyme
1 bay leave
1/ 4. Tsp salt and pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 baguette bread
3 cups gruyere cheese
6 Tbsp Parmesan cheese

Slice onion 1/4” thick. Cook onions stirring occasionally over low heat,
In melted butter,, with brown sugar if using it, until golden brown, about
5-10 minutes.
Add wine, beef broth, bay leaf, thyme, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce,
Bringing to a boil, simmer about 1 hr. Remove bay leaves and thyme.
Meanwhile, slice bread, brush with olive oil, broil 2 minutes per side or until golden brown
Put toasted bread on bottom of bowls. Ladle into soup bowls, add 2 slices of bread
on top of soup, divide cheeses over bowls, broil until golden brown & bubbly

Serve hot
Cook time 1 hr 20 minutes, total time 1 hr 35 minutes
