1 cup raisins
1 cup water
¾ cup shortening
1-½ cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2-½ cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
½ tsp. baking power
½ tsp. cloves
2 cups oats
½ cup chopped nutes

Preheat oven to 400º F. Simmer raisins and water over medium heat until the raisins are plump. Drain raisins, reserving liquid. Add enough water to liquid to measure 1/2 cup. Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Blend in the raisin liquid. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Drop the dough by rounded teaspoons onto an uncreased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown, about 8-10 minutes.
