Filling
2 1/2 cups dates
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp vanilla extract

Dough
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup crisco vegetable shortening
3 eggs
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt

Directions:

Filling
1. Combine dates, water and sugar into a sauce pan. Cook until thick
2. Once thick, add walnuts and vanilla.
3. Let the filling cool

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

Dough
1. Beat the eggs and combine all the dough ingredients.
2. Roll out the dough onto a sheet of wax paper
3. Spread the filling on the sheet of dough
4. Roll up the dough into a log
5. Slice the filled dough log into 1/4 inch disks
6. Place disks on cookie sheet
7. Bake at 325 for 15 minutes
