1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
4 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, add sugar, then egg. Add flour, one cup at a time to the creamed mixture using a spoon. Press dough into a 13 x 9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle sugar on top. Using a fork, poke holes into the dough. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes. Immediately cut the shortbread after removing from the oven as the cookie will hardened as it cools.
