Personal Notes:
This was the only dish our Aunt Sylvia from New Orleans knew how to make and since she only came up in the summer, this dessert was a perfect summer treat. Each trip (which were infrequent), she let one of the nieces or nephews select the color that the cake should be. When it was my turn, I wanted it to be blue. Aunt Syl refused, saying there were no such things as blue foods. Try as I may to convince her that blue foods did exist (blueberry popsicles were a key example), she simply would not budge. Unless I made the cake myself, Aunt Syl would never agree to making it blue. I think most kids picked green. Loved the dessert, hated the fight over the hue.
