Cold Black Chocolate Cake:
½ cup shortening (half butter)
1 ¼ cups sugar
2 eggs, beaten
½ cup cocoa
1 cup hot water
1 ½ cups flour
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder

Creamy Chocolate Frosting:
⅛ cup water
1 ½ Tbsp. butter
¼ tsp. vanilla
3 ½ Tbsp. cocoa
1 cup powdered sugar

Cold Black Chocolate Cake: Combine cocoa and hot water to dissolve. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift dry ingredients together, and add to creamed mixture by alternating with the cocoa mixture. Add 1 tsp vanilla. Bake at 350º for 30 minutes. Makes one loaf size cake or two 8-inch layers (25 minutes).

Creamy Chocolate Frosting: Cream butter, powdered sugar and cocoa. Add vanilla and water. Beat until smooth.
