6 c sifted flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 c shortening
3 c brown sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
2 tsp vanilla

Variations:
Chocolate -- Add 2 oz (squares) chocolate, melted, to 1 portion of the dough. Blend well.
Coconut -- Add 1/3 c shredded coconut to 1 portion
Fruit -- Add 1/3 c chopped dates, raisins, currants, dried apricots, prunes, or figs to 1 portion. Mix well.
Nut -- Add 1/3 c of finely chopped almonds, pecans, peanuts, Brazil nuts, or walnuts to 1 portion of dough. Mix well
Spice -- Add 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg to 1 portion of the dough. Mix well.

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and flavoring and mix well. Add dry ingredients. Divide dough into 6 equal portions. Leave 1 plain and make variations of remaining dough. Shape each piece of dough into a roll. Chill. When firm slice very thin and bake in moderate oven (375º) 10 - 12 minutes.
