2 + 1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses (or substitute 1/2 cup milk instead of molasses). A mild molasses works best.
1/2 cup sweet milk (regular milk)
1 cup butter
4 cups all - purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
3 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 -1 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried currants
1/2 cup diced candied citron

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the butter + sugar together.

Add the molasses and the flour.

Mix the baking soda with the milk and stir it in.

Lastly, stir in the spices, raisins, currants and citron.

Bake in pans lined with waxed paper.

This quantity will make 2 loaves of cake.

Bake @ 325 F. for 1 + 1/2 hour or until done.

Note: use part whiskey or wine in place of milk.

A mild molasses is Louisiana sorghum molasses instead of grandma's molasses as it has a milder flavor.
