Ingredients:
Ingredients:
Oil for deep frying
1 cup flour
2/3 cup yellow cornmeal
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 Tbsp bacon drippings
1 egg, beaten
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 lbs hot dogs (Evergood preferrably)
corn dog sticks

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oil to 365º F.

In a large bowl, stir together the flour, cornmeal, sugar baking powder and salt.
Stir in melted bacon drippings.
Make a well in the center, and pour in the egg, buttermilk and baking soda.
Mix until everything is smooth and well blended.

Pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels so that the batter will stick.
Insert wooden sticks into the ends of the hot dogs.
Dip the hot dogs in the batter one at a time, shaking off the excess.
Deep fry a few at a time until they are as brown as you like them.
Drain on paper towels.

Hint: using a narrow deep bowl will help when it's time to dip the dogs, we have actually put the batter in a Solo cup for dipping. It can get messy, but fun. Also, they really suck the heat out of the oil, so wait a minute before adding new dogs.

Personal Notes:
We had a fair food themed family get together a couple of weeks ago and served corn dogs, funnel cakes, meat on a stick, fruit on a stick, anything on a stick, etc. It was a blast, but the star of the show was the corn dogs, for sure. The funnel cakes were a close second.
