2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
¾ cup butter
½ tsp. ground cloves
1½ tsps. cinnamon
¼ tsp. salt
2 tsps. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
Combine flour, sugar and butter with pastry blender until crumbly. Set aside 1 cup crumbs for the topping. Using the pastry blender, mix spices, baking soda, baking powder and salt into the remaining crumbs. Combine egg and buttermilk. Mix together buttermilk and egg with dry ingredients and blend well. Transfer to greased and floured 9" x 9" pan. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs. Bake in 350ºF oven till toothpick inserted comes out clean.
