Ingredients:
Ingredients:
⅔ cup water
4 tbsps. meringue powder
8½ cups icing sugar
1¼ cups margarine or Crisco
¾ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. butter flavouring
½ tsp. almond flavouring
½ tsp. clear vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine water and meringue powder and whip at high speed until peaks form. Add 4 cups sugar, one cup at a time, beating at low speed after each addition. Alternately add shortening and remaining sugar. Add salt and flavourings and beat at low speed until smooth. This icing may be stored well covered in the refrigerator for several weeks, then brought to room temperature and re-beaten. Recipe may be cut in half or doubled. If you plan to tint this icing, make it at least 4 hours ahead, then stir it before using. This will eliminate white spots that may form on the surface. Colors will deepen as it ages. Thin with 2 tsps. of white corn syrup per cup of icing sugar to pipe leaves. For writing and printing, this with 1 tsp. of syrup per cup. Makes 8 cups.
