Ingredients:  
Ingredients:  
1/4 C sugar
1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp salt
1 C milk
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Place sugar, cornstarch and salt in a double boiler. Slowly stir in milk. Cook and stir over boiling water until thickens. Stir small amount into beaten egg. At once, blend egg mixture back into hot mixture. Cook and stir 2 minutes over hot water. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Chill.

Enough filling for layer cake. Can add fresh fruit on top of cream filling (bananas, strawberries).
