1 cup molasses
1 cup buttermilk
2¼ cup all purpose flour
1¾ teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons ginger
½ teaspoon salt
1 egg, well beaten
½ cup melted shortening

Directions:
Directions:
Mix molasses and milk. Sift dry ingredients together. Add egg and shortening; beat until mixture is smooth and creamy. Pour into greased 9 x9 pan and bake in moderate 350º oven for about 30 minutes.
