Directions:
Preheat oven to 400º. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda. Using electric mixer, cream butter/margarine and shortening in a large bowl; gradually add the sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and egg. Add flour mixture and beat until smooth; blend in milk. Drop by teaspoon about 3 inches apart onto a greased baking sheet. Flatten with bottom of glass that has been dipped in sugar. Bake about 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on racks.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I have frequently made this recipe. Sometimes during the holidays I use colored sugar but most of the time I simply drop the dough with my cookie scoop, do not press down and the cookies come out thicker and just as delicious. I like to add dried cranberries in mine; it gives the cookies an added zing/tartness. I use my Pampered Chef stoneware and not my regular baking pans--no greasing, no parchment paper needed.
