Mix thoroughly:
2/3 cup soft shortening (part oleo)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

Sift together and stir in:
1 + 1/2 cup sifted Gold Medal flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

Add or stir in:
1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Directions:
Directions:
Drop rounded teaspoonful dough about 2" apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake until delicately browned.
Cookies should still be soft.
Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.

Bake @ 375 degrees F. for 8-10 minutes.

Makes 4-5 dozen cookies.
