1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter (or margarine)
2 eggs (beaten)
3 bananas (mashed)
5 T sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. flour
1/2 c. nut meats (chopped)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs. Stir in bananas. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Add alternately with milk. Stir in nuts. Bake 1 hour at 350º. Makes two loaves. (You can make sour milk by adding a little vinegar to your milk)

This is Grandma Carrie's recipe. I love all kinds of banana bread. Mom said you could substitute buttermilk for the sour milk, she keeps the dry kind in her fridge for recipes like this!
