2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2. c. crisco
1 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 cup finely chopped dates
1/2 chopped nuts

Icing:
3 c. Sifted powdered sugar
1/3 c. crisco
3 tbsp. orange juice
11/2 tbsp.grated orange rind

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt
Add crisco, milk and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes
Add the eggs, dates and beat 2 more minutes
Fold in nuts and bake in layers 35-40 min at 350º.

Icing:
Blend powdered sugar and crisco
Stir in orange juice and rind.
