German Chocolate Cake Recipe

1 pkg (4oz.) German chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks (reserve whites for later use w/recipe)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
4 egg whites stiffly beaten

Melt chocolate over boiling water. (double boiler method) Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour and baking soda and salt together. Add alternatley with buttermilk to chocolate mixure, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into three 8-9 inch layer pans, lined with waxed paper. Bake at 350 F for 30-40 minutes. Cool... Frost w/ Coconut Pecan Frosting and enjoy!
