Chocolate Thumbprints Recipe

1 one-ounce square unsweetened chocolate
½ cup butter or margarine
½ cup sugar
1 egg, separated into egg whites/yolk
⅓ tsp. of vanilla
1 cup flour
¼ tsp. salt
¾ cup finely chopped walnuts
1 six-ounce package of semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

1. Melt chocolate over hot (NOT boiling) water (using a double boiler) and cool slightly.

2. Cream the butter with electric mixer, and add melted chocolate to it. Mix well.

3. Add sugar, egg yolk and vanilla...mix well.

4. Sift together in separate bowl flour and salt. Add this to the chocolate mixture.

5. Make ball shapes from dough.

6. Slightly beat the egg white with a fork in a separate bowl.

7. Dip balls into egg white to coat and roll in nuts to coat dough.

8. Place onto cookie sheet. Press thumb gently in center of each.

9. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes.


When the cookies come out of the oven place 3-4 chocolate chips in the center of the thumbprint.

Allow to cool.
