1 c. butter
1 c. confectioner's sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
tsp salt
Your choice of decorations

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Beat in egg. Sift together flour, backing soda, cream of tartar and salt. Gradually stir dry mixture to creamed mixture until blended. On wax paper, shape in 12 X 2 roll. Wrap and chill for several hours. Cut in inch thick slices and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 12 minutes.
