Ingredients:
3 cups warm water
1 package yeast
1/4 cup shortening
4 Tbsp. sugar
6 Tbsp. molasses
1 Tbsp. salt
3 cups whole wheat flour
3 cups white flour
Optional: 1/2 cup wheat germ

Directions:
Directions:
Soften the yeast in 1/2 cup of the warm water. In a large bowl put remaining water, shortening, sugar, molasses and salt. Add softened yeast; add 2 cups whole wheat flour and 2 cups white flour. Mix until smooth. Add remaining whole wheat flour and enough white flour to knead to the right consistency (keep dough a little sticky.) May mix out after first rising or punch down and let rise again. The buns will not appear as light as white ones when they are ready to bake. (Don't let them get too light.)
Bake at 375.
