Directions:Place dry yeast in a small dish with ˝ c. lukewarm milk for 5 minutes without stirring. Set aside. Mix together 1 ˝ c. Lukewarm milk ˝ sugar and tsp salt. Stir in Yeast and mix well. Add eggs and stir until blended. Add butter or margarine. Mix in flour in 2 additions, using the amount necessary to make easy to handle. Mix first with spoon and then with your hands. (If you have a mixer with the Hook attachment, you can skip this mess) Transfer dough to a floured counter and knead dough until easy to handle. Place in a Large bowl, coat with a little vegetable oil. Cover with a piece of waxed paper, sprayed with Pam and a small towel. Place in a warm area. Let rise until double in size. Transfer to a floured counter and roll dough into oblong 9 x 18”. Spread butter over dough and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll up tightly, beginning at wide side. Seal well by pinching edges of roll together. Cut roll into 1” slices. Place a little apart in greased 13 x 9” pan. Cover and let rise until double in size (about 35 – 40 minutes) Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and turn upside down on a serving plate.
For Donuts use the same dough: After dough has doubled in size. Roll out on a floured counter to 1/3“thickness. Cut with floured 3” doughnut cutter. Place on floured board and let rise on board until very light (30-45 minutes) Leave uncovered so a crust will form on the dough. Carefully drop into a deep hot fat (375 degrees) Drain on absorbent paper. For sugared doughnuts: Place in a bag with sugar and shake. |
