Make a nest with your pile of flour with your fist, Put in the shortening and cut in the shorting with a fork to a consistency of small peas.
add the Buttermilk and mix (not as good as you would if you were making Rolls)
with a rolling pin roll out to about ½ to ¾ inch, cut with a biscuit cutter and place in a greased 12" Dutch oven. brush each one with melted butter and cover with the lid

Before you start mixing the biscuits start a chimney of charcoal.

Place the Dutch oven on 9 charcoals spread out well then place 15 charcoals on top.
each time you check it turn the Dutch Oven and lid ¼ turn in different directions, this helps to prevent hot spots.
keep checking the bottom each time you look it and when the bottom gets brown move the charcoals from the bottom to the top to help brown the tops.

Katherine and Homer said that Oscar Pigg's (Mary Lou's Grandfather)Dutch Oven Biscuits were the real deal cowboy biscuits. They wished they had gotten the recipe but there wasn't one because Oscar had it all stored it his mind, Mary Lou and I got the ingredient's list from Barbara (Pigg) Bell) she helped hem make them.
I worked out the instructions on how to mix and cook them
